Back to School Bash Recap

Midlothian’s Annual Mayor’s Back to School Bash was a hit! On Saturday, July 30th, Manna House joined forces with the city, local business and church partners to celebrate the end of summer and the return to the school year.

Free to the entire community, this event offered fun for the whole family! With carnival games, water slides, face painting and even a zipline, it provided plenty of entertainment and activities for kids and adults alike.

In addition to the fun, families were able to complete important back to school tasks such as receiving free haircuts and vision screenings, signing up for a free vaccine clinic, and getting all of the essential back to school information.

Presented by Atmos Energy, the community-wide celebration also serves as a fundraiser to provide free school supplies to students in need. Thanks to a grant from Midlothian’s Community Development Corporation, a record number of school supplies were distributed to every school. Additional sponsors included Ash Grove, Brookshire’s, Ennis Inc., Gerdau, John Houston Homes, Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, Texas ACE Heating and Air Conditioning, the Midlothian Rotary Club,TXU Energy and others.

All Midlothian ISD students who are qualified to receive free or reduced lunches were eligible to receive free school supplies through their campuses. If families are still in need of supplies, they should contact their student’s campus counselor for more information.

“This event is so important for the community,” says Midlothian Mayor Richard Reno. “We know that families’ budgets are really being pinched and providing essential items like school supplies can really help relieve this burden. This event showcases the spirit of generosity that makes Midlothian a special place to live, work, and play.”

Along with the fun, food trucks were on site and local talent performed on stage. Artists such as the Jamamaniacs, Pippa, Lilly Harper and the Cacti, Caroline Cooper, and Kamie Tielke, entertained the crowds while Headliner Kadie Lynn finished the evening. The evening culminated with a fireworks show that left the community fired up to start the school year!
